Priority contracts (including liaison contracts) are the primary format through which Marathon (2026)'s story is told. They serve the same function as levels or chapters in other games, and revolve around completing specific gameplay objectives in each zone to unlock the corresponding lore, dialogue, and cutscenes.
Contracts are completed independently for each faction, progressing different aspects of Marathon's story and unraveling the mystery behind Tau Ceti IV.
