Gameplay[edit]

Acquire NuCal Employee ID from infested building in Columns[edit]

WARNING: Tick swarm detected!

After reaching the tick-infested building in Columns, the player finds its window shutters sealed and all the doors locked.

The vent allowing entrance to the tick-infested building in Introducing: NuCaloric.

They enter by breaking a vent cover on the roof and dropping into a storage room. The door into the main room is locked and shows ACCESS DENIED, but a hand scanner nearby prompts the player:

REACTIVATE POWER

Next to the hand scanner is a note painted on the wall:

KEEP THE DOORS CLOSED

An activated hand scanner inside the tick-infested building in Perimeter.

After activating the hand scanner, the industrial power supply can be heard powering up, and the ticks inside screech in response and become agitated. If the player looks through the door's window they can see them crawling around inside the main room.

At the door, the player is prompted:

OPEN DOOR

Immediately inside are two tick nests, which must be eliminated to stop the ticks from spawning in the closed space. The Employee ID is located inside an outer room behind another set of closed doors, with a third tick nest inside. The ID is sitting on a shelf opposite the windows.

After grabbing the ID:

✓ OBJECTIVE COMPLETE appears on-screen.

Download employee data from terminal nearby[edit]

The terminal can be found in the same building as the ID.

An authorization terminal inside the tick-infested building in Perimeter.

An authorization terminal in the same room is pinged in the player's HUD with a contract objective icon. Upon walking over to the terminal, the player is prompted:

DOWNLOAD EMPLOYEE DATA

After downloading the employee data:

✓ OBJECTIVE COMPLETE

  • ONI: "Priority contract fulfilled."

No extraction necessary.

Contract debrief[edit]

Upon completing run:

ONI: Onboard Navigational Intelligence

  • ONI: "The ID badge you found belonged to a NuCaloric mission specialist. In return, a company representative, identifying himself as "Gaius," has sent you a neural partition request."
  • ONI: "NuCaloric is reputable, as megacorporations go, but don't let down your guard."

  • Gaius: "I am Gaius, contacting you on behalf of NuCaloric. Our mission, my principal directive, is to ensure humanity's survival by meeting its most basic needs."
  • Gaius: "When you crawled through the colony's detritus, you saw numbers stamped on shelters, vehicles, and food. NuCaloric product numbers."
  • Gaius: "The colony's economic loss is mundane, the setback to human survival is profound. Sol has finite resources. Humanity must escape its bounds to avoid a slow extinction."
  • Gaius: "This is why human leaders originally launched the Marathon expedition, hundreds of years ago. NuCaloric wishes to understand the colony's collapse so we may prevent future catastrophe. Will you assist?"

NUCALORIC[edit]

FACTION: NUCALORIC AGRICULTURAL [NuCal]
ROLE: Philanthropically minded consumer megacorp
CLASSIFICATION: Megacorporation
AGENT: Gaius

OVERVIEW: NUCALORIC came to prominence for its humanitarian response to a devastating famine in the 2360s. The company's founder, Gus Moraine, aggressively centered public philathropy as a pillar of NUCALORIC's corporate strategy. This mix of social utility and ruthless optimization transformed NUCALORIC into the dominant provider of basic consumer goods in Sol, diversifying beyond agriculture to everything from hab units to cosmetics.

NUCALORIC signed a contract with the UESC to supply civilian goods for the UESC MARATHON, making them a legal stakeholder in the colony venture. However, their attempts to enforce salvage rights on TAU CETI IV are presently limited in scope. NUCALORIC does not appear interested in sustained confrontation with the UESC or other corporate stakeholders, preferring to gather historical data and specific intel using hired RUNNER operatives.
