The Jjaro were an extremely advanced species that disappeared from the Milky Way galaxy millions of years before the battle of Tau Ceti.

Overview[edit]

The Jjaro possessed high-quality cyborg technology, such as that used to give the S'pht sentience,[1] a star-destroying weapon known as the trih xeem,[2] the ability to move entire planets by warping space around them, some form of time manipulation technology, the ability to communicate with the dead,[3] and the power to imprison the W'rkncacnter.[4] [5]

It is possible that the S'pht mythical beings – Yrro and Pthia – were Jjaro.[4]

History[edit]

After their demise, much of their technology fell into the hands of the Pfhor, while the S'pht'Kr used Jjaro technology to fold Lh'owon's moon K'lia out of their home system.[1]

According to Durandal, the Nakh were the last extant client race of the Jjaro. They rebelled against the Pfhor 6,000 years before the end of Marathon 2.[2]

While it occurred long after their species supposedly disappeared from the Milky Way, the Jjaro were responsible for warning humanity (via hologram) about the Dreaming God beneath a pyramid in the Yucatan Peninsula in 1994. Inside the pyramid, Sergeant Eddings discovered a number of artifacts of alien — presumably Jjaro — origin, showcasing some of their technological capabilities.

After Eddings stunned the Dreaming God by detonating a nuclear weapon, the Jjaro apparently visited Earth in-person to ensure it remained dormant. The artifacts Eddings obtained from the pyramid disappeared shortly after, but are presumed to have been used to accelerate humanity's technological advancement.[6]

Years later, Durandal hinted that the creation of Battleroids was enabled thanks to humanity's possession of Jjaro technology.[7]

Production notes[edit]

  • While the pyramid in the Yucatan is referred to as "neither Aztec nor Mayan", it contains many hieroglyphs reminiscent of those found on Egyptian archeological sites. The few Jjaro names used throughout the series, such as Ryu'Toth and the ancient AI Thoth suggest a heavy connection to ancient Egypt.
