Data Reconstruction [1/3] is a priority contract for NuCaloric Agricultural that functions as the second chapter of NuCal's contract storyline.

Overview[edit]

Data Reconstruction [1/3] sees the player scanning two Sparkleaf Bioprinters in South Relay, two Fungal Bioprinters in Overflow, and reactivating the power in order to download an agriculture report from an authorization terminal in North Relay, including an audio log from a colony-era agricultural inspection conducted by the UESC Marathon's chief agronomist Dr. Clarissa Song.

Pre-contract brief[edit]

Gaius.png

  • Gaius: "Tau Ceti's agricultural facilities sit empty. Our proprietary technology gathers rust on the planet's surface, corroded and forgotten."
  • Gaius: "What became of those brave souls who called this place their home? I have a hypothesis about their disappearance, but it requires... verification."
  • Gaius: "We must access the colony's agricultural records. Collect data on edible native plants. And please, be liberal with what you consider 'edible.'"
  • Gaius: "I suspect the colonists did not have the luxury of choice."

Gameplay[edit]

Scan Sparkleaf Bioprinters in South Relay[edit]

The Bioprinters can be found in a small room on the north side of the ground floor of South Relay and at the outbuilding near the regular exfil location, closest to Station.

Upon approaching a Bioprinter, the player is prompted:

SCAN SAMPLE

After scanning both samples:

✓ OBJECTIVE COMPLETE appears on screen.

Scan Fungal Bioprinters in Overflow[edit]

The Bioprinters can be found on the second-floor in the northeastern and southwestern corners of the building.

Both Bioprinters can be found on the second floor of Overflow, one on top of a row of shelves on the east side, closest to South Relay, and the other in a room on the west side closest to the DCON facility.

Upon approaching a Bioprinter, the player is prompted:

SCAN SAMPLE

After scanning both samples:

✓ OBJECTIVE COMPLETE

Download agriculture report in North Relay[edit]

The agriculture report can be downloaded from an authorization terminal on the east side of the main building, closest to Station. However, upon approaching the terminal, it is found sparking and non-functional. The player is given the prompt:

NO POWER

The power supply can be reactivated using a hand scanner on the wall of a room directly below the terminal. Upon approaching the hand scanner, player is prompted:

REACTIVATE POWER

A biometric hand scanner at North Relay in Perimeter.

After reactivating the power, the player can return to the terminal, where they are prompted:

DOWNLOAD AGRICULTURE REPORT

After downloading the agriculture report:

✓ OBJECTIVE COMPLETE

An authorization terminal and hologram at North Relay in Perimeter.

A hologram flickers to life next to the terminal, displaying the topography of Perimeter, while sparks fly from a nearby laptop. An audio log begins to play:

  • Dr. Song: "Cleaning the filters requires a temporary shutdown, and pond 3 is already offline. That brings us down to... 30% below our food quota. Damn it."
  • Dr. Song: "I'll put in a request to Reed, ask him to open up the emergency stockpiles. We're not all hardened soldiers, and we... we can't keep asking our neighbors to tighten their belts."

No extraction necessary.

Contract debrief[edit]

Gaius.png

  • Gaius: "Supporting a viable exoplanet population is a daunting task under the best of circumstances. The data that you retrieved supports my hypothesis... The colony struggled to achieve food security."
  • Gaius: "Human reports suffer from anxiety-driven errors. AI are less prone to casual anthropomorphism. Though the colony's agricultural AI is defunct, you can still recover its metadata and logs for further analysis."

Agriculture Inspection[edit]

ANALYZING…
FILE TYPE: Emergency Inspection Log
PERIOD: Colony Era
SPEAKERS: Song, C. [ID: CSNG]
TOPIC: Novel Contagion
SUMMARY: A recording of Dr. Clarissa Song, New Cascadia's principal agronomist, performing emergency inspection at Algae Ponds. This log represents an early recorded incident of a novel contagion affecting the colony's food supply.

[CSNG]: This is Dr. Clarissa Song, beginning emergency inspection log. OK, let's crack open that water filter.

[scraping]

[CSNG]: Yeah, sure enough, filament worms are back. Ugh. They build nests faster than the BoBs can scrape them off. Adaptable little buggers. Pesticides, targeted genome disruption, nanotech—nothing sticks.

[CSNG]: Their nesting medium smells like… tamarind? Might be edible when dry. I'll bring some back to Darius for analysis.

[sample collection]

[CSNG]: No sign of the fungal growths from algae pond 3, so the novel contagion hasn't spread here…Yet.

[CSNG]: Cleaning the filters requires a temporary shutdown, and pond 3 is already offline. That brings us down to… 30% below our food quota. Damn it.

[CSNG]: I'll put in a request to Reed, ask him to open up the emergency stockpiles. We're not all hardened soldiers, and we… we can't keep asking our neighbors to tighten their belts.
