New Cascadia was the first human colony established on Tau Ceti IV. Development was completed in 2787. At its peak, it had over 30,000 residents.[1] In 2794 it suffered a violent attack from the Pfhor Empire. Subsequent issues with a novel contagion and the eruption of an alien Anomaly from the surface of the planet severely disrupted colonization efforts. Contact with the colony was lost in 2795. When the UESC Equanimity arrived in the system to conduct Runner operations as part of Project Goliath, the colony had been completely abandoned and most of its colonists had mysteriously vanished.

New Cascadia was overseen by a number of Presidents, including Galea, two successors, and finally Luca Caruso.[7]
Project Goliath[edit]
During the planning phase of Project Goliath, it was determined that if New Cascadia was found to be beyond recovery due to anti-government activity or AI rampancy, a potential "Nuke and Pave" option could be deployed to destroy all surface assets and subsequently re-develop the colony. Other options were also weighed, such as minimizing damage to the terrain by using ground forces to deploy antimatter catalyzed conventional explosive devices. Concerns about fallout from the nuclear option compelled the UESC to reassess the viability of other sites on Tau Ceti IV for colonization, ones that were outside potential fallout patterns.[8]
