Bioprinters were a technology that enabled the 3D printing of living cells and other biomaterials to create functional biological structures. They were utilized on New Cascadia during the Colony Era as part of efforts to ensure food security.[1]
Overview[edit]
Bioprinters came in at least two primary types. One was smaller and utilized in the processing of biological material (such as Sparkleaf and fungi) as part of nutritional sustainability efforts by New Cascadia colonists. The other was utilized in the production and storage of bioimplants.
History[edit]
During the Colony Era, New Cascadia residents used one type of bioprinter in the synthesis of Sparkleaf and fungi to ensure food sustainability. In 2893, Runners scanned these bioprinters as part of their contract with NuCaloric Agriculture, attempting to determine the cause of the colony's downfall.[1]
