Zones were areas of operation in the Tau Ceti system, particularly on the surface of Tau Ceti IV, deemed secure for the colonists of New Cascadia and UESC operations. They effectively divided "civilization" from the planet's untamed wilderness.
The zones of Tau Ceti were patrolled by security forces from the UESC Marathon prior to New Cascadia's collapse.
In 2893, multiple zones were hot spots for Runner operations.
