Biomata are artificial bio-cybernetic bodies used by Runners as temporary housing for their disembodied consciousnesses. They are 3D printed by Sekiguchi Genetics through a combination of biological and technological means, granting the Runner enhanced abilities beyond that of a standard human, including cyberintrusion measures.
Printing process[edit]
Biomata shells were woven by Sekiguchi Genetics' patented WEAVEworm technology, which wove shells from synthsilk in a process that took up to eight hours.[1] The shells were woven in the following order:
- Skeletal structure
- Nervous system
- Circulatory system
- Viscera (digestive, immune, lymphatic, respiratory, and filtration systems)
- Viscera support webbing
- Frontal/parietal cranial enclosure
- Semi-flexible skeletal structures
- Muscular system
- Integumentary system
During, between, and after each of these stages, grafting is completed for a number of advanced systems, the most crucial of which is the neural housing and its biosync and memoratic layering, which is onlined in microfractional instances alongside each step of the process.[1]
Shells[edit]
Shells are unique biomata variants which grant Runners specific abilities and personalities. Known shells include:
- Assassin, shadow agent
- Destroyer, combat specialist
- Recon, intel specialist
- Rook, scavenger
- Thief, covert acquisitions
- Triage, field medic
- Vandal, combat anarchist
