These surveys showed that, compared to Earth, Tau Ceti IV had relatively low megafauna populations, with little diversity. Early scans showed no land mammals, though a few amphibious specimens resembled [[Monotreme|monotremes]]. The surveys also showed that the planet had no organisms capable of scavenging human waste or discarded food, and urged for establishing waste treatment facilities to curb the ecological impact of human presence.
