Destroyer models were first produced by the UESC's Combat Science Labs. They have seen illicit use by Runners since at least 2872. In the later stages of their deployment by the UESC, the Locus personality series was developed based on the live-fire experience of UESC soldiers, with a vocalization pattern amalgamated from many combat field leaders.[1]
Shell warfare was banned from military use by interplanetary treaty with the passage of the Consequence of Violence amendment in 2879, although rumors suggest that Destroyers are still used in clandestine operations against Runners in the Sol system.[1] After the ban, one crew of ex-UESC soldiers went private, forming the Cyber Red freelance kill crew. They made headlines across Sol during the "Night of 1000 Deaths" when UESC crackdowns and raids forced the crew to disband. Most were subjected to neural deletion, but a handful managed to evade capture.[2]
Destroyer models were utilized heavily during the corporate cold war on Tau Ceti IV in 2893.[3] Sighting of Destroyers equipped with Cyber Red shell styles were first dismissed as a scare tactic for the inexperienced, before reports began to increase in frequency.[2]
