Geological survey drones were, with some modifications, capable of operating in airborne, underwater, or subterranean environments.[1]

Variants[edit]

The following is a list of unauthorized variants utilized by technician Z. Christoforos during New Cascadia's founding:

History[edit]

During the settling of Tau Ceti IV, airborne drones modified by technician Z. Christoforos suffered from QIDAR errors due to what he concluded were distortions in Minkowski space. This was corrected for by switching to traditional LIDAR.[1]

Underwater drones regularly surfaced with almond-shaped sucker marks from an unknown organism. This was corrected for by lining the drones with rows of titanium spikes and hypercobalt lights.[1]

Subterranean drones suffered catastrophic explosions as a result of the same Minkowski space perturbations when exploring cave systems beneath the planet's surface. This was corrected for by switching to manned surveying.[1]

Finally, multipurpose drones, which were determined to be the most effective, regularly suffered accumulation of toxic pollen on rotors while doing low-altitude sweeps over potential agricultural sites. This was corrected for by replacing the composite rotors with ones salvaged from a line of NuCal toys.[1]

In the Post-Colony Era, in 2893, Runners regularly found deactivated survey drones scattered throughout various zones.
