Mars is a planet in the Sol system, and the second planet colonized by humanity. It suffered severe strife and uprising, and was the birthplace of the revolutionary organization MIDA. Its moon Deimos was converted into humanity's first extrasolar colony ship, the UESC Marathon.

Martian colonization happened in stages, managed by the UESC Colonial Registry, which regulated how frequently new colonists could be sent.[1] The first major migration saw a 36% increase in religious affiliation.[2] Early Martian colonists experienced an event known as the Polar Ice Crisis.[1] The planet saw an incident of historic violence at the Jezero Crater Massacre.[3]
